About our founder

Amanda Slobe is the Founder of You Have A Visitor (YHAV) and a driving force behind disrupting the current state of few visible inclusive practices in travel. She has a passion for advocacy and travel, and she knows first-hand the heart bursts as well as the heartbreaks that come with having a sibling with disabilities and extra needs.

Amanda’s sister Kristin is a woman with a huge heart, obsession for details, and a love for twirling straw wrappers between her fingers. It was through Amanda and Kristin’s love and desire to stay connected, as well as their desire for their own independence, that YHAV was born.

Although Amanda is the Founder of YHAV, she has other facets to her life that she focuses on while still caring deeply for Kristin. She loves to surf, teach, and learn everything she can about a topic. Amanda was introduced to the importance of communication when she and her family learned Sign Language in order to communicate better with Kristin. Amanda took that love for languages to Egypt where she earned a degree in International Human Rights Law, studied Arabic, and worked closely with asylum seekers and refugees living in Cairo.

Amanda believes that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), as well as siblings and loved ones of people with I/DD, all deserve to have the freedom and empowerment to live their own lives. YHAV shortens the distance between us so this can be a reality.
